8 Days Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Safari | Generous African Tours

The first day of the 8-day Serengeti wildebeest migration safari starts with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha, followed by a drive to Tarangire National Park. This park is well-known for its large herds of elephants, baobab trees, and diverse birdlife. You will enjoy an afternoon game drive upon arrival, searching for various animals such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, and numerous antelope species. The park is also famous for its tree-climbing pythons and colorful birds.

On the third day, you will have a full day of game drives in the Serengeti National Park. You can choose to explore more areas of the central Serengeti or venture towards the southern or western parts of the park depending on the season and movement of the wildebeest migration. During this period, you can witness large herds crossing rivers and moving in search of fresh grazing lands.

Today’s journey takes you further north to the Kogatende area in the northern Serengeti. This region offers breathtaking views of vast plains and provides excellent opportunities to observe the Great Migration. Between July and October, you can witness the thrilling Mara River crossings where thousands of wildebeest risk their lives to cross crocodile-infested waters. Apart from the migration spectacle, other wildlife encounters include predators like lions, hyenas, and cheetahs that are attracted to this abundant prey source.

Explore more of the remote northern Serengeti on day five as you visit the North Mara region. Here you can discover hidden gems like remote waterfalls and enjoy incredible landscapes while encountering an array of wildlife species. The North Mara area is also an excellent location for observing migratory birds and enjoying some peace away from busier tourist areas.

After breakfast, you will depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey takes you past stunning landscapes filled with acacia trees and savannah grasslands. Once you arrive at your lodge near the Ngorongoro Crater rim, you can enjoy beautiful views overlooking this natural wonder — a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the final day of your safari experience, you will visit Lake Manyara National Park before returning to Arusha town. The park features diverse landscapes including a groundwater forest teeming with primates like baboons and vervet monkeys as well as a shallow alkaline lake supporting numerous flamingos and other waterbirds. After a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, conclude your safari with a transfer back to your hotel in Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
