4 Days Serengeti Migration Safari - Overview
The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the most spectacular wildlife events on earth — and the Serengeti is its stage. Our 4 Days Serengeti Migration Safari places you at the heart of this extraordinary phenomenon, where over 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra, and thousands of gazelle follow ancient instincts across Tanzania's most iconic national park.
Departing from Arusha, this compact but immersive safari maximises your time inside Serengeti National Park with two full game drive days on the plains. Depending on the season, your expert guide will position you to witness river crossings, calving season, or the relentless pursuit by predators — lions, cheetah, leopard, and crocodile all follow the herds.
Whether you choose comfortable camping under a star-filled Serengeti sky or a mid-range tented lodge, every element of this package is designed to deliver a genuinely wild, unhurried experience. Small group sizes, private vehicles, and guides who know the Serengeti's seasonal patterns make the difference between seeing the migration and truly experiencing it.

4 Days Serengeti Migration Safari - Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arusha to Ngorongoro — Journey to the Crater Rim
Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your Arusha hotel. Your guide briefs you on the days ahead as you travel west through the fertile highlands, stopping at a local market to experience everyday Tanzanian life. You ascend through misty forest to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with your first breathtaking view of the crater rim at over 2,300 metres. Afternoon game viewing along the rim is possible, and as the sun sets over the caldera, you settle into your crater-rim camp or lodge for a hot dinner under an extraordinary canopy of stars. Tonight the Serengeti awaits.
Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti — Enter the Migration Zone
After an early breakfast, you descend from the crater rim and press westward into the Serengeti ecosystem. The landscape opens dramatically — acacia woodlands give way to endless golden plains. En route, your guide scans for wildlife as the Serengeti begins to reveal itself. By midday you are deep inside the park, picnicking in the bush before your first proper afternoon game drive. The central Serengeti — the Seronera Valley — is a year-round wildlife hub: resident lion prides, leopards resting in sausage trees, hippo pools, and vast elephant herds. As migration season dictates, wildebeest columns may already stretch to every horizon. You arrive at your camp or tented lodge as the last light fades over the plains.
Full Day in the Serengeti — Deep in Migration Country
This is the heart of your safari — a full day dedicated entirely to the Serengeti and the migration spectacle. You depart before sunrise for golden-hour game drives when predators are most active and the light is extraordinary for photography. Between July and October, your guide positions the vehicle at key Mara River crossing points, where the drama of thousands of wildebeest plunging into crocodile-filled waters unfolds in raw, unforgettable scenes. Outside crossing season, the calving grounds (January–March) offer lion hunts, cheetah sprints, and the sight of thousands of newborn wildebeest within hours of birth. A bush picnic lunch keeps you on the plains all day, maximising every moment. Late afternoon drives often produce leopard sightings as the cats descend from their daytime resting trees.
Serengeti Morning Drive — Return to Arusha
Your final morning begins before breakfast with one last sunrise drive across the Serengeti — a quiet, golden hour that often delivers the most intimate wildlife encounters of the entire trip. After a camp breakfast, you begin the return journey eastward, re-crossing the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with its sweeping crater views, and continuing through the highlands back to Arusha. You arrive in the late afternoon, carrying memories of one of Africa's greatest natural wonders. Airport or hotel drop-off included.
