1 Day Tanzania Safari to Serengeti National Park - Overview

The Serengeti National Park is one of the most iconic safari destinations in the world, and a day trip safari is a great way to experience the best of what it has to offer. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and more. It is also the site of the Great Migration, one of the most spectacular natural events in the world.

Our Serengeti day trip tour departs Mwanza early in the morning with a breakfast box and lunch/ picnic box. We drive to Serengeti/ Ndabaka gate, on arriving at Serengeti National Park gate. You will enjoy your breakfast picnic box at the gate followed by check-in at the park and after registration proceeds on a game drive. The game drive starts from the western corridor also known as Ndabaka to Seronera which is central Serengeti, it takes about 3 hours. The western corridor of the Serengeti landscape is more wooded and it is common to see giraffes, elephants, zebra, impala, topi, ostrich, hippo, waterbuck, and many smaller animals.Drive along the Grumeti River, finding crocodiles hunting zebras and herbivores at the water’s edge. Watch for the pods of hippos that ‘yawn’ at the surface of the river, and look for signs of large cats and predators. In the afternoon, we enjoy an extensive game drive en route to the Central Serengeti which is a large plain full of tall grass. Here we find the big cats such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. If the time is right, the wildebeest migration is incredible to see. And stop at the picnic area for lunch. After lunch start your game drive in Central Serengeti slowly making your way back through the western corridor. Serengeti is home to cheetah, black rhino, wild dogs, and elephants that live within the reserve and theBig Five are common here. Around 1700 Hours, We exit Serengeti National Park gate and head back to Mwanza. Arrive in Mwanza and transfer you to your hotel/ residence

1 Day Tanzania Safari to Serengeti National Park - Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha to Serengeti National Park & Return

Meals: LDeparture: 5:00 AMDrive: ~5 hrs each wayFull Day Game Drive

5:00 AM – Arusha Hotel Pickup. Your guide collects you before dawn. The early start is intentional — every minute gained on the road means more golden-hour game viewing inside the park. The drive heads west through sleeping Arusha streets into the open plains beyond.

5:00 AM – 8:30 AM – Road to the Serengeti. The route crosses Maasai steppe and climbs through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area highlands. Your guide pauses briefly at the Ngorongoro Crater rim viewpoint — a breathtaking first sight of the caldera 600 metres below — before the road descends westward and the Serengeti ecosystem opens in front of you. The sky doubles in size. The horizon stretches in every direction.

8:30 AM – Naabi Hill Gate — Park Entry. You enter Serengeti National Park through the southern gate. While your guide registers, kori bustards stalk the short-grass plains outside the vehicle and a tawny eagle watches from a lone acacia. The pop-top roof hatch opens. The Serengeti officially begins.

8:30 AM – 10:30 AM – Southern Plains Game Drive. The Naabi short-grass plains are cheetah territory — open, windswept, and ideal for hunting. Your guide scans every termite mound for a cat using it as a lookout post. Wildebeest and zebra herds graze the open circuit, and during calving season (December–March) this exact landscape hosts 400,000 wildebeest newborns in a six-week window with every Serengeti predator in attendance.

10:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Seronera Valley Circuit. The drive north enters the Seronera Valley — the wildlife heartland of the Serengeti. Ancient granite kopjes rise from the acacia woodland, and your guide checks each one for lion prides resting in the shade. The Seronera River corridor is prime leopard territory — the valley's sausage trees and fig trees are checked branch by branch for a cat draped overhead. Hippo pools along the river complete the circuit, pods of twelve to twenty animals surfacing in explosive, snorting bursts.

12:30 PM – Bush Picnic Lunch Inside the Park. Your guide pulls into a shaded picnic site near the Seronera River. Lunch is served from the cool box surrounded by woodland kingfisher calls, vervet monkeys patrolling the perimeter, and the open sounds of the Serengeti midday.

1:30 PM – 3:30 PM – Afternoon Game Drive. The afternoon circuit covers the river systems and open grassland north of Seronera. Elephant family groups move through the acacia woodland, giraffe feed from the tallest canopies, and buffalo bulls stand in riverside shade. The golden afternoon light transforms the plains — softer, warmer, and perfect for photography.

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM – Final Predator Check. A last sweep of the known kopje and tree territories before park exit. The late afternoon is the Serengeti's second golden hour — low light, long shadows, and often the best sighting of the entire day.

4:00 PM – 7:30 PM – Return to Arusha. Exit through Naabi Hill Gate and retrace the highland route eastward. A final crater rim view in late afternoon light, then the descent through the Ngorongoro highlands and Maasai steppe back to Arusha. Hotel drop-off by 7:30 – 8:00 PM.
