Best 6 days Machame Route Kilimanjaro climbing group join, the most popular and scenic path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the Whiskey Route for its challenging terrain, this journey offers breathtaking views, diverse ecosystems, and an unforgettable sense of accomplishment. Starting in lush rainforest, the trail ascends through moorland, alpine desert, and finally to the icy summit of Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). Perfect for those seeking a combination of physical challenge and spectacular natural beauty, this group join tour provides camaraderie and support, enhancing the overall experience. Our professional guides, porters, and chefs ensure safety, comfort, and nourishment, allowing you to focus on the climb and the awe-inspiring landscapes.
The 6-day Machame Route group join climb covers approximately 62 kilometers (39 miles) from the Machame Gate to the summit and back down to the Mweka Gate. Each day involves 5-7 hours of trekking, except for the summit night, which is longer and more demanding. The route is designed to allow for optimal acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching the summit successfully. The daily distances and elevations vary, providing a balanced approach to the summit with ample time to rest and acclimate.
Accommodation along the Machame Route is in spacious, high-quality tents. Each evening, camp is set up in designated sites that offer stunning views and basic amenities. Campsites include Machame Camp, Shira Camp, Barranco Camp, Karanga Camp, Barafu Camp, and Mweka Camp. Meals are prepared by skilled chefs, ensuring that climbers receive nutritious and energy-boosting food to sustain them throughout the journey. Sleeping mats are provided, and climbers are encouraged to bring their own sleeping bags suited to high-altitude conditions.
Your adventure begins at Machame Gate, where you complete the registration process before starting your trek through the lush rainforest. The trail can be muddy and slippery, so trekking poles are recommended. As you ascend, you'll encounter a variety of plant species and possibly wildlife. The day ends at Machame Camp, located in the lower moorland zone.
After breakfast, you leave the glades of the rainforest and continue on an ascending path, crossing a small valley and walking along a steep rocky ridge. The route turns west onto a river gorge until you arrive at the Shira campsite. The flora changes dramatically as you enter the moorland zone, with its characteristic giant lobelias and senecios.
The route now turns east into a semi-desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower, where you reach an altitude of 4,600 meters (15,092 feet) before descending again to the Barranco campsite. This day is crucial for acclimatization, as you will be exposed to high altitudes and then sleep low, following the principle of "climb high, sleep low."
Your day begins with the challenging Barranco Wall, a steep climb requiring some hands-on scrambling. Once over the wall, you descend into the Karanga Valley, then follow a path up to Karanga Camp. This shorter day is designed to aid acclimatization and allow for rest before the strenuous days ahead.
From Karanga, you head up a ridge and reach Barafu Camp by early afternoon. After an early dinner, you rest in preparation for the summit attempt at midnight. The climb begins around midnight, with a challenging ascent in the dark, cold, and wind. You will head northwest and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. From there, a further 1-2 hour trek along the rim takes you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, you descend back to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
On the final day, you descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you complete the registration process and receive your summit certificates. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel, where you can celebrate your incredible achievement.
