Overview

At a Glance

  • Half-day add-on: roughly 1 hour of flight time, plus a bush breakfast, added to any existing Serengeti safari itinerary
  • Departs before sunrise, around 5:30–6:00 AM, from your existing Serengeti camp
  • Best booked in advance, since balloon capacity per morning is limited across the Serengeti's operators
  • Includes a traditional champagne toast and full bush breakfast after landing

This is a half-day add-on, not a standalone trip: a pre-dawn hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti plains, roughly an hour in the air, followed by a traditional champagne bush breakfast, slotted into any existing Serengeti safari.

Floating silently at low altitude over the plains gives a genuinely different view of the landscape and its wildlife than a vehicle game drive — herds, rivers, and kopjes seen from above rather than at eye level.

Because balloon capacity is limited and departures depend on wind conditions, this experience is best booked as an add-on well before your Serengeti dates, rather than arranged last-minute at camp.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Is this a standalone trip, or does it need to be added to an existing safari?

This is strictly a half-day add-on — you'll need an existing Serengeti safari itinerary with at least one night at a Serengeti camp for pickup and drop-off; it isn't bookable on its own.
FAQ

How much does the balloon flight add to my existing safari cost?

Pricing is quoted per person as a clearly itemized add-on to your main safari cost, separate from your park fees and accommodation — ask for a combined quote once your main itinerary is set.
FAQ

What happens if the flight is cancelled due to weather?

Balloon operators cancel flights when wind conditions aren't safe; if this happens, most operators offer a refund or a chance to rebook for the following morning if your itinerary allows for it.
FAQ

Can children join the balloon flight?

Most operators set a minimum age and sometimes a minimum height for safety reasons during landing; check current restrictions when booking, as these can vary by operator.
FAQ

Is the champagne breakfast included, or is it a separate purchase?

The champagne toast and full bush breakfast after landing are included in the standard balloon flight package, not sold separately.
FAQ

Which of your safari packages can this be added to?

Any package that includes at least one Serengeti night works — our 3-Day Serengeti Safari, 5-Day Tanzania Safari, Great Migration Safari, and Luxury Tanzania Safari packages are all common pairings.
