What happens each day of the tour?
Day 1
Arrival in Zanzibar
A driver holds a sign at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. Our host Juma greets you with a wide smile and the easy pace that Zanzibar seems to run on. He loads the bags, asks about the flight, and mentions the match schedule almost before the car doors close.
The drive to your beach hotel passes spice farms and roadside fruit stalls. Juma runs through the week over fresh juice at check-in. Beach first, he says. Football after. Plenty of time for both.
Day 2
Beach Day
Meals: B, L, D
The morning is free. Some guests swim before breakfast. Others just watch the tide from a hammock. Juma checks in by early afternoon, mostly to confirm tomorrow's match-day pickup time rather than to fill the day with activity.
By late afternoon, talk at the hotel bar drifts toward football, as it does most evenings this week. Juma has an opinion on nearly every team, though he's careful never to bet on Tanzania losing.
Day 3
Fumba Stadium Match Day
We leave for Fumba Stadium with plenty of buffer built in. Juma has walked the access roads himself in the weeks before, since a brand-new venue hosting its first tournament tends to have queues first-time visitors underestimate.
Inside, the setting is like nothing else at AFCON 2027. Coral rock and ocean horizon frame the pitch on three sides. Juma, watching the crowd as much as the match, says he never expected to see a stadium like this on his own island.
The walk back to the vehicle takes longer than the walk in, as it always does with a full stadium leaving at once. Dinner back at the hotel is spent replaying the match over fresh seafood.
Day 4
Stone Town Culture Day
A change of pace today. The morning covers Stone Town's narrow streets, spice markets, and the old fort, with Juma pointing out details a rushed visit would miss. Lunch is at a rooftop café overlooking the harbor.
The afternoon is free to wander Stone Town alone, or head back to the beach for the rest of the day. Juma leaves the choice entirely up to you.
Day 5
Beach Day
A full day back at the coast. Snorkeling trips and sunset dhow cruises are available if you want them, though plenty of guests simply stay by the pool or the water. Juma checks in briefly, mostly to see how yesterday's match settled with everyone.
Day 6
Second Match Day or Free Beach Day
If the fixture schedule allows a second match at Fumba, we head back to the stadium. If not, the day stays free for one more stretch of beach time before the trip winds down. Juma is equally happy either way
Day 7
Departure from Zanzibar
The final morning is unhurried. Depending on your flight time, there's room for one last swim before Juma arrives for the airport transfer. He asks, as he always does, whether the football lived up to the beach.
The drive to the airport is familiar by now. Juma's send-off usually includes a joke about coming back for the next tournament too.
