This 10-day tour offers the perfect balance of wildlife and culture. Visit top African safari parks to see the Big Five, followed by immersive visits to local communities and cultural landmarks. A journey filled with nature, adventure, and insight into local traditions.
Upon arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided city tour. Visit the Nairobi National Museum to learn about Kenya’s diverse wildlife, culture, and history, followed by a trip to the Giraffe Centre to see the endangered Rothschild giraffe. End the day with a welcome dinner at your hotel.
After an early breakfast, you will depart for Amboseli National Park, known for its stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. After checking into your lodge, head out for an afternoon game drive, where you may spot large herds of elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras, and various bird species. The park’s unique landscape provides incredible photo opportunities, especially with the mountain in the background.
Start the day with an early morning game drive when the animals are most active. You’ll have the chance to see elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife. In the afternoon, visit a Maasai village to learn about their rich traditions and way of life. The Maasai people, famous for their distinct dress and customs, will welcome you into their homes, offering a deeper understanding of local culture.
Depart Amboseli and travel to Lake Naivasha. After arriving at your lodge by midday, enjoy a boat ride on the lake, where you’ll encounter hippos, flamingos, and numerous bird species. Following the boat ride, take a walking safari on Crescent Island, where you’ll be able to get close to wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, and antelope with no vehicles around.
Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most famous safari destinations, known for its incredible wildlife diversity and annual Great Migration. After lunch, embark on your first afternoon game drive, where you can spot the Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos. The evening will be spent at your lodge, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful views.
Spend the entire day in the Masai Mara, visiting both the reserve’s grassy plains and its more wooded areas, ensuring opportunities to spot lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. In the early morning and late afternoon, the animals are most active. Optionally, you can also take a hot air balloon ride at sunrise to view the wildlife from above. A visit to a Maasai village can be arranged to get a closer look at their way of life and cultural practices.
Leave Kenya behind as you cross into Tanzania and head to Serengeti National Park. A brief stop at the Isebania border before continuing to the Serengeti, where you’ll enjoy an afternoon game drive. Serengeti, a vast expanse of savannah, is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and countless antelope. The park is particularly famous for the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move in search of fresh grazing grounds.
Spend the entire day in Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives. The park’s expansive plains provide excellent wildlife viewing, especially as predators like lions and cheetahs hunt for their prey. Depending on the time of year, you may have the chance to witness the migration or see a wide range of herbivores such as wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles. In the evening, return to your lodge to unwind.
After breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a caldera with rich wildlife, including the endangered black rhino. After arriving at the crater’s rim, descend into the crater floor for a full-day game drive. The crater is home to a high concentration of wildlife, including lions, hyenas, zebras, and wildebeest, all coexisting in a compact ecosystem.
After a final morning game drive, you will travel back to Arusha. Depending on your flight time, you may have a few hours for last-minute shopping or sightseeing before being transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
Safari days can be long, so comfort is key. Choose lightweight, breathable clothing that’s in neutral colors (avoid bright clothing, which can disturb wildlife). Don’t forget essentials like a hat, sunglasses, and a lightweight jacket for cooler mornings and evenings. A good pair of binoculars will enhance your wildlife viewing experience.
The African sun can be intense, especially in the safari parks. Be sure to drink plenty of water during the day to stay hydrated. Many lodges provide bottled water, but it’s advisable to carry a refillable bottle, as staying hydrated is essential for your energy and health during your safari.
Safari activities often begin early in the morning to capture animals at their most active. The early morning light provides the best chances for stunning photos. Be sure to set an alarm and be ready to go before sunrise to make the most of each game drive.
When visiting Maasai villages or other local communities, it’s important to show respect for their customs. Ask permission before taking photographs, avoid making loud noises, and engage respectfully with the local people. A smile and a friendly attitude go a long way in fostering positive interactions.
A quality camera with a zoom lens is a must for capturing the wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. Wildlife encounters can happen quickly, so be prepared. Bring extra memory cards, spare batteries, and a lens cleaning cloth. Consider using a tripod for stable, sharp photos during low-light situations.
Before your trip, consult with your doctor regarding vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis. Malaria is present in many areas, so be sure to take necessary precautions and carry mosquito repellent with you. A small first-aid kit, including pain relievers, antiseptics, and bandages, can also be helpful for minor issues.
The local currency in Kenya and Tanzania is the Kenyan Shilling (KES) and Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), but US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas. It’s always a good idea to have a small amount of cash for tips and small purchases. Credit cards are often accepted at lodges and larger shops, but always carry cash for smaller expenses.
Keep a safe distance from all wildlife and refrain from making loud noises or sudden movements. This helps ensure the safety of both you and the animals. Listen carefully to your guide’s instructions, especially during game drives and walking safaris, to avoid any risks to your safety or the animals.
