This 8-day family safari in Tanzania is designed to combine thrilling wildlife encounters with enriching cultural experiences, ideal for travelers of all ages. Journey through the heart of Northern Tanzania’s famed national parks—including Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti—while also connecting with the traditions of the local Maasai, Hadzabe, and Datoga tribes. Each day brings a balance of adventure and learning, perfect for curious kids and engaged adults alike.
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your guide will greet you and transfer you to your family-friendly lodge in Arusha. You’ll settle in, enjoy a welcome drink, and have a short briefing about your upcoming adventure. Depending on your arrival time, explore the lodge gardens or visit a nearby local market.
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its ancient baobab trees and large elephant populations. Enjoy a game drive while spotting giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and possibly big cats. Kids will love looking for playful baboons and colorful birds. After lunch at a picnic site or lodge, enjoy more wildlife viewing before heading to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its diverse habitats and tree-climbing lions. After a morning game drive, have lunch at a lodge. In the afternoon, visit the Mto wa Mbu village where your family can engage in banana plantation tours, traditional cooking lessons, and meet local artisans. Children can participate in storytelling, dancing, or even school visits.
Today is a cultural highlight. Start early and drive to Lake Eyasi to meet the Hadzabe bushmen, one of Tanzania’s last hunter-gatherer tribes. Participate in a hunting demonstration with bow and arrow, and observe their unique language of clicks. Later, meet the Datoga tribe—renowned blacksmiths—and witness traditional metalwork. These are unforgettable learning moments for the whole family.
After breakfast, depart for Serengeti via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Stop for a scenic picnic on the way. Enter Serengeti and begin your game drive en route to your camp. Expect to see wildebeest, zebras, lions, and cheetahs. Children will be fascinated by animal behaviors and tracks. Settle into your family tented camp in the wild and enjoy storytelling around the campfire.
Spend the entire day on game drives. Early morning drives may reveal predators hunting. Your guide will share wildlife knowledge in a kid-friendly way. Optional activities include balloon safaris (age limit applies) or a nature walk near the camp. Enjoy lunch in the bush and continue wildlife viewing in the afternoon. Return to camp for dinner under the stars.
Depart early to descend into the Ngorongoro Crater—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a great place to see the Big Five. This is one of the best places for children to learn about ecosystems. Have a picnic lunch near a hippo pool. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Maasai village before heading to your lodge on the crater rim for your final night.
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha with a stop for souvenir shopping or a visit to a local orphanage/school project (optional). You’ll be dropped at Kilimanjaro Airport in time for your onward flight or at your hotel if extending your stay.
