This 6-day wildlife safari combined with a scenic boat cruise on Lake Manyara offers a comprehensive experience of Tanzania’s incredible natural beauty and diverse ecosystems. Starting from Arusha or Moshi, you will journey through world-renowned parks such as Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, and the iconic Ngorongoro Crater. Each day provides new opportunities to observe wildlife including elephants, lions, buffalos, hippos, flamingos, and hundreds of bird species in their natural habitats. The highlight of this safari is the Lake Manyara boat cruise—one of the few lakes in Tanzania allowing safe and immersive water-based wildlife viewing. The cruise lets you witness hippos, crocodiles, and diverse birdlife from the water’s edge while soaking in stunning panoramic views of the Rift Valley escarpment. This safari is designed for travelers seeking both thrilling wildlife game drives and a unique aquatic perspective.
You will be picked up from Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha town early in the morning. The drive to Tarangire National Park takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. En route, enjoy the scenic views of rolling plains and Maasai villages. Upon arrival, embark on your first afternoon game drive in Tarangire, famous for its large elephant populations, diverse bird species, and iconic baobab trees.
Tarangire’s landscape is characterized by a seasonal river that attracts vast herds of elephants and other wildlife during the dry season. Expect to spot impalas, zebras, giraffes, lions, and various antelope species as your guide shares insights about the park’s ecology. Evening return to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, head out for a full day game drive in Tarangire. With a knowledgeable guide, explore different areas of the park including riverine forests, grasslands, and termite mounds where wildlife congregates. Keep an eye out for predators like lions and leopards, as well as large herds of elephants that roam the park.
Midday lunch is usually served at a designated picnic site or your lodge depending on the itinerary. Continue afternoon game viewing to maximize wildlife sightings. Return to your accommodation by sunset for relaxation and dinner under the African skies.
After an early breakfast, depart Tarangire and drive to Lake Manyara National Park, approximately 1.5 to 2 hours away. On arrival, prepare for an exciting boat cruise on Lake Manyara—a rare and magical experience that offers a water-based perspective of the park’s wildlife.
The boat cruise lasts about 2 to 3 hours and navigates calm waters where hippos wallow, crocodiles bask, and large flocks of flamingos color the lake’s alkaline edges. Your guide will point out different bird species including kingfishers, fish eagles, storks, and pelicans. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Rift Valley escarpment as you cruise peacefully on the water.
Later, you will go on a traditional game drive through Lake Manyara National Park’s other habitats: dense forest, acacia woodland, and open plains. This park is famous for tree-climbing lions that often lounge in fig and acacia trees—a unique spectacle for wildlife lovers.
Overnight stay at a nearby lodge or camp with comfortable facilities.
After breakfast, depart Lake Manyara and head towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, about 1.5 hours drive. Visit a Maasai village along the way to learn about the culture and traditions of this semi-nomadic tribe, their beadwork, and way of life.
In the afternoon, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for an unforgettable game drive. The crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and shelters a dense concentration of wildlife, including the Big Five. Expect sightings of lions, elephants, black rhinos, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and many bird species.
The diverse ecosystem ranges from grasslands to swamps and acacia forests, supporting this extraordinary wildlife diversity. Return to your lodge or camp on the crater rim for dinner and overnight, enjoying stunning sunset views over the crater.
Spend the full day exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, starting early to maximize wildlife sightings in the cool morning hours. Your guide will take you to key locations such as the Hippo Pool, Lerai Forest, and Ngoitokitok Springs. Each area offers different wildlife and photographic opportunities.
Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater while observing animals in their natural habitat. The afternoon can include a visit to Oldupai Gorge (the “Cradle of Mankind”), a significant archaeological site where some of the oldest human fossils have been found.
Return to your accommodation on the crater rim for a final dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight or further travel plans. Depending on your schedule, optional activities or extensions can be arranged, such as visits to local markets, cultural tours, or additional safaris.
