This 5-day Serengeti Migration and Ngorongoro Safari offers an unforgettable journey into Tanzania’s most iconic wilderness areas. Witness the dramatic Great Migration, when over a million wildebeest and thousands of zebras traverse the Serengeti plains in search of greener pastures. Combine this spectacle with a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater – a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with wildlife including lions, rhinos, elephants, and more. With expert-guided game drives, scenic landscapes, and comfortable lodges, this safari provides the perfect balance of adventure and comfort.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be met by your safari guide who will transfer you to your lodge in Arusha. After check-in and some rest, you’ll enjoy a briefing about your upcoming safari. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore Arusha town or relax at the lodge with views of Mt. Meru.
After breakfast, you will take a scenic flight (optional) or drive to Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Highlands. Enter the park through Naabi Hill Gate and begin your first game drive across the Central Serengeti plains. This region is rich in wildlife all year round, with lion prides, cheetahs, hyenas, elephants, and many grazers roaming the open savannah. Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in time for dinner and an overnight stay in the heart of the wild.
Rise early for a full day dedicated to tracking the Great Migration. Depending on the season (typically June–July or October–November), you’ll head towards Northern Serengeti (Kogatende area) or Western Corridor (Grumeti River) to witness the thrilling river crossings or large herds moving in synchronized rhythm. Your guide will tailor the day based on animal movement reports. Expect to see massive herds of wildebeest, thousands of zebras, stalking predators, and dramatic interactions. Picnic lunch is served in the bush to maximize time in the field. Return to camp for a fireside dinner and rest.
Begin with a sunrise game drive for a chance to spot elusive predators like leopards returning from a hunt. After breakfast, slowly drive out of Serengeti en route to Ngorongoro, enjoying wildlife encounters along the way. Stop at a Maasai village (optional) to learn about local culture and traditions. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim in the late afternoon and soak in the breathtaking view of the caldera below. Dinner and overnight at the lodge perched above the crater.
Today begins with an early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” The 600-meter-deep caldera hosts over 25,000 animals in a compact space, making sightings incredibly rewarding. Look for endangered black rhinos, big cats, elephants, hippos, and abundant birdlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the hippo poolside. In the afternoon, ascend the crater walls and begin your journey back to Arusha, arriving by evening. Transfer to the airport or hotel depending on your onward plans.
